This book basically follows the travels of Arthur Dent, an Earthman rescued by Ford Prefect, from the planet Betelgeuse, just before the Earth is destroyed. The are joined by a few other characters and end up in several very improbable situations.
I know several people who love this book and so decided that I should try it at as well. I enjoyed it, though it isn't a favorite. I love the names of the characters. I did remark to a coworker who loves the book, that the character names made me think of Dr. Seuss. I also loved, even though it was only mentioned, the creature Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. I just find the idea of it thinking if you can't see it, it can't see you as very funny. And thanks to this book, I finally know the meaning of life.
